\` 2018 BCSSTA Conference - October 19, 2018 - Vancouver, BC

New Resources for Teaching Law: Grades 5-12

This workshop introduces 2 new resources from Justice Education Society (JES).
The JES Speakers Bureau provides teachers with an online application to book judges, lawyers and other justice personnel to present to your class. Teachers provide their grade and location, then select a topic. JES coordinates with justice personnel to arrange for a speaker to go to your school, present to the class and respond to questions. In addition, as necessary, there is an option to use video conferencing to have a justice professional present the information.
The session will also introduce SocialStudiesBC.ca, which has been developed with input from BCTF. It provides access to hundreds of teaching resources that are categorized according to the new curriculum > searchable by grade, big idea, topic and keyword. Teachers access the content they need and also have the opportunity to upload their own teaching resources.
